This unique color looks especially breathtaking on brown, amber, and tile green eyes. Inspired by this exclusivity, I've created a very simple and wearable Alexandrite makeup tutorial, and you can easily recreate this makeup look following these easy steps.
June Birthstone: Alexandrite Eye Look Step-by-Step Tutorial
What You Will Need:
- Eyeshadow primer
- Eyebrow pencil or powder
- Creamy teal eyeliner pencil
- Teal and dark blue eyeshadows (or loose pigments)
- Mauve shimmering eyeshadow
- Nude-pink matte eyeshadow
- Black kohl eyeliner & forest green eyeliner
- Black liquid or gel eyeliner
- Mascara & your favorite false eyelashes
- Step 1: Prep the Canvas
Every great masterpiece starts with a smooth canvas! Begin your eye makeup routine by applying a high-quality eyeshadow primer.
Apply a small amount evenly all over your eyelid.
Gently blend it out using your ring finger—your ring finger naturally applies the least amount of pressure, making it perfect for the delicate skin around your eyes.
Pro Tip: Allow the primer a minute or two to fully absorb and set into the skin before going in with any color. This crucial step ensures your eyeshadow stays vibrant and crease-free all day long.
- Step 2: Frame the Face and Build the Base
Next, fill in and shape your eyebrows using your preferred brow pencil or powder to frame your face. Once your brows are sculpted, it's time to start the halo eye technique!
Take your creamy teal eye pencil and apply it directly to the inner and outer thirds of your eyelid.
Leave the very center of your eyelid completely bare.
Don't worry about making this look neat or precise right now! This pencil layer is simply acting as a sticky base to give your powder eyeshadows maximum intensity.
- Step 3: Blend and Intensify
Now, we are going to diffuse those edges and lock the color in place.
Using a small, soft makeup brush, gently buff and blend the edges of the teal pencil so there are no harsh lines.
To prevent the pencil from creasing, set it by packing a similar teal powder eyeshadow directly over the top.
For extra depth and drama, tap a dark blue eyeshadow or a loose blue pigment over the teal, concentrating on the outermost corners. This creates that mesmerizing, multi-dimensional gemstone effect.
- Step 4: Make the Halo Pop
This is where the magic happens, and the Alexandrite birthstone inspiration truly comes to life.
Take a stunning mauve eyeshadow and pack it onto that empty space in the center of your eyelid.
Carefully blend the edges where the mauve meets the teal and blue shades so they transition seamlessly into one another.
To tie the whole lid together, take a fluffy blending brush and sweep a matte, nude-pink eyeshadow through your crease. This acts as a transition shade, melting the jewel tones into your brow bone for a professional, smoky finish.
- Step 5: Line, Define, and Lash Out
To complete the look, we need to add some definition to the lash lines. Tightline your eyes by applying a black kohl pencil to your upper waterline. This makes your lashes look instantly thicker.
For a fun, unexpected pop of color, run a forest green pencil along your lower waterline. Map out a beautiful, sharp wing using a black liquid or gel eyeliner along your upper lash line.
Finally, curl your natural lashes, apply a few generous coats of volumizing mascara, and finish off the Alexandrite look with a pair of fluttery false eyelashes.
*Note: Don't forget to clean up any eyeshadow fallout under your eyes before applying your foundation and concealer!
