Hi guys! It is time for a new birthstone makeup tutorial inspired by a girl's best friend — diamonds. They are one of the hardest substances on Earth, and natural diamond stones are extremely rare, therefore unique! A diamond is a symbol of eternal love and provides its wearer with better relationships and an increase in inner strength.
While creating today's step-by-step makeup tutorial, I was inspired by a raw Diamond stone—they are unclear, a little bit cloudy, and their colors can dramatically vary from faint yellow shades to black. I've decided to keep my diamond makeup clear and simple, so without further ado, let's start!
April Birthstone: Diamond Eye Look Step-by-Step Tutorial
Working with rhinestones might seem intimidating at first, but with the right technique, it is actually incredibly simple. Let’s dive into this step-by-step guide to achieving the perfect, long-lasting jeweled eye!
What You Will Need:
Before we get started, gather your tools to make the process as seamless as possible:
- Matte eyebrow pencil or brow powder
- Nude eyeshadow & white shimmery/glitter eyeshadow
- Flat rhinestones (in your preferred size)
- Clear eyelash glue & precision tweezers
- Purple matte eyeliner pencil
- Black liquid eyeliner
- Eyelash curler, mascara, and your favorite false lashes
- Step 1: Prep and Prime Your Canvas
To make sure our diamond makeup looks flawless all day (and night) long, you absolutely must start with an eyeshadow primer.
Apply the primer all over your eyelids, gently tapping and blending it out with your ring finger. An eye primer acts as a magnet for your makeup. It prevents creasing, helps your eyeshadow last significantly longer, and makes the colors look much more vibrant.
- Step 2: Frame the Face and Set the Base
Your eyebrows frame your entire face, so we want them to look defined before we add the sparkle.
Fill in your brows using a matte eyebrow pencil or a brow eyeshadow, following your natural shape.
Set the lid: Take a nude eyeshadow that matches your skin tone and sweep it across your entire eyelid to set that tacky primer. This creates a smooth, even base.
Highlight: To make your eyes truly pop, highlight your brow bone and the inner corners of your eyes using a white eyeshadow packed with shimmer or fine glitter.
- Step 3: Bring on the Bling (The Rhinestones!)
Now for the star of the show! We are going to apply the rhinestones just under the arch of the eyebrow to create a lifting, magical effect.
Prep the glue: Apply a very small amount of clear eyelash glue to the back of your hand or a clean mixing palette. Wait about 30 seconds for the glue to become tacky—this stops the gems from sliding around your face.
Place the gems: Dip the flat back of a rhinestone into the tacky glue. Using your precision tweezers, slowly and carefully place the rhinestones one by one along the lower edge of your eyebrow. Gently press each one down for a second to secure it.
- Step 4: Add Definition and Drama
To tie the whole look together, we are going to add a fun pop of color and some serious volume to the lashes.
Tightline with color: Gently pull down your lower lid and apply a purple matte eye pencil to both your top and bottom waterlines. This unexpected pop of purple contrasts beautifully with the rhinestones!
Wing it out: Draw a sharp, beautiful wing along your upper lash line using a black liquid eyeliner.
Lashes: Curl your natural lashes and apply a few generous coats of your favorite volumizing mascara.
The grand finale: Pop on a pair of fluffy false eyelashes to complete the drama.
And there you have it! Your stunning diamond makeup look is completely done and ready to sparkle under the lights.
