August last summer month, and we all can feel the fresh breath of the forthcoming autumn season. But, luckily for everyone who was born in August, this month has probably the most beautiful birthstone — the mysterious and peculiar Peridot gemstone. Peridot, also known as 'the Evening Emerald', is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color: olive green. The intensity of the green color can vary from very light lime green to a deep forest green shade, and if you look closely at a raw Peridot birthstone, you will catch all shades of yellow-green color.
I think this gemstone and its color perfectly represent the month of August and the transition between summer and autumn. Inspired by the raw Peridot gemstones and the beautiful month of August, I decided to create a very simple and autumn-friendly eye makeup, and I think you can easily recreate this look following my easy step-by-step tutorial.
August Birthstone: Peridot Eye Look Step-by-Step Tutorial
If you love a classic smoky eye but want to add a vibrant pop of color, this Peridot Green Smoky Eye is exactly what you need. It is intense, glamorous, and surprisingly easy to achieve.
Grab your favorite brushes, and let's get glowing!
- Step 1: Prep and Prime Your Canvas
Every masterpiece needs a solid foundation. Start your eye makeup routine with a high-quality eyeshadow primer. Apply a small amount all over your eyelid and gently blend it out using your ring finger (your ring finger applies the least amount of pressure, making it perfect for the delicate eye area!).
*Pro Tip: Don't skip this step! A good primer acts like a magnet for pigment and ensures your eyeshadow lasts all day long without fading, smudging, or creasing.
Step 2: Frame Your Face
Before diving into the heavy eyeshadow, take a moment to fill in your eyebrows. Well-defined brows frame the face and balance out an intense eye look. You can use an eyebrow powder, pencil, or pomade—whatever you feel most comfortable with. Brush through them with a spoolie to ensure they look soft and natural.
- Step 3: Build a Dark, Smudgy Base
To make our green eyeshadow look super intense and multidimensional, we are going to use a dark base. Take a creamy black eye kohl pencil and apply it all over your mobile eyelid. Don't worry about being too neat here! Grab a soft, synthetic blending brush and gently diffuse the edges of the black kohl into your crease so there are no harsh lines.
- Step 4: Pack on the Peridot Green
Now, it's time for the star of the show! Choose a dark green eyeshadow, preferably one with a gorgeous yellowish-gold undertone, to perfectly mimic a peridot gemstone. Using a dense, natural-bristle brush, pick up the green shadow and gently dab it directly on top of the black eye kohl.
Why dabbing? Pressing the shadow rather than swiping it ensures maximum color payoff and prevents the pigment from falling out onto your cheeks.
- Step 5: Illuminate and Define
To bring light back into the eyes and create contrast, we need to highlight. Take a beautiful champagne satin eyeshadow and pop it right onto your brow bone and the inner corners of your eyes.
Next, to make your smoky eye look incredibly deep and piercing, take that same black eye kohl pencil from Step 3 and tightline both your upper and lower waterlines. Smudge a little bit into your lower lash line to tie the whole look together.
- Step 6: The Finishing Touches
To complete this gorgeous Peridot makeup look, give your eyelashes a good curl to open up the eyes. Apply a few generous coats of your absolute favorite volumizing mascara. If you are feeling extra glamorous or heading out for the night, pop on a pair of fluttery false eyelashes for maximum drama!
Summing Up...
